Activity |
| Activity Description: In response to increasing infrastructure demands and grant requirements utilized for the implementation of the South West water supply improvement project, the City of Prince George adopted a three stage policy approval process. In Stage 1, all commercial and industrial water users were reviewed to ensure that water use was metered. In cases where no meters existed, they were installed. At the same time, an assessment of local policy with respect to irrigation of public areas was conducted and public knowledge regarding water conservation was increased through a media communicated program complemented by bill inserts and city publications. During Stage 2, a pricing structure assessment was conducted. The City is considering charging based on a flat rate structure. Incentives offered through alternate pricing mechanisms are being evaluated in terms of their ability to recover actual costs for distribution. In Stage 3, a cost/benefit analysis of universal metering for the City will be undertaken. According to the outcome of the study, a program for implementing metering and water conserving fixtures will be developed. |
